Do I Need To Send a Save the Date?

You are probably wondering if you need to send a save-the-date. This really depends on you as a couple and the time of year you will be getting married. If you are marrying during high travel times like a holiday weekend or summer in a beach town, a save-the-date would help your guests not plan anything around that time. A heads up on your wedding plans is always nice. Between arrangements and busy schedules, this can help increase your chances of the guests attending.

When Do I Send My Save The Date?

A good time frame to send them is around six to eight months prior to the ceremony. Even earlier if you are planning a destination wedding. This will give guests plenty of time to save up, book their travel plans, and ask for days off work.

What Information Do I Include?

Some key information to include on your save-the-date are the following:

  • The date
  • Couple’s names
  • Location (a city is helpful even if a venue isn’t booked yet)
  • Notice for formal invitation to follow
  • Wedding Website (if applicable)

Who Do I Send Save the Dates To?

It is best to be clear about who’s invited to the wedding, even this far in advance. A good way to do this with the save-the-dates is to include actual names of every intended guest on the envelope. By adding the name, you are less likely to have any assumed invitees or general confusion. Being upfront will be easier than an awkward situation later.

Where Do I Find Save the Dates?

With the times changing, it has become more common to send electronic save-the-dates and invites. If you decide to go digital, you may consider doubling up. Keep in mind the older relatives who may not be as tech savvy or the friends who may want to keep it as a keepsake. Most importantly, have fun planning your wedding and creating your save-the-dates!
